and so it begins

This is the beginning of a journal. It has a specific theme. It's about my experience of learning to draw. And specifically learning to draw on an iPad Pro using an Apple Pencil. At least, those are the tools I have chosen to start with.

I chose to get my iPad and Pencil at an Apple Store, just for the "retail experience". The sales assistant asked what I intended to do with it. So he passed that information on to his colleague whose job it was to walk me through the initial setup of the iPad. As luck would have it this guy was introduced as an expert in artwork on the iPad. He approved of my choice of drawing apps, Procreate by Savage Interactive and Paper by 53. But when I had installed them he explained that he was not allowed to give me any guidance. They are not Apple products.

I was happy. My beautiful big iPad was up and running. I had drawn the first lines with my Apple Pencil. The adventure was beginning.

So I walked down the glass stairway, out into the Amsterdam sun and caught a tram on Leidseplein.
